Palki Sharma Steps Down as Managing Editor of Firstpost

Palki Sharma, a well-known and highly regarded news anchor in India, has recently resigned from her role as Managing Editor of Firstpost, a prominent news outlet.

Sharma was crucial in influencing the editorial direction of the platform and played a pivotal role in the establishment of its flagship program, Vantage. In addition to her on-air duties, she was actively involved in assembling the editorial team and enhancing the operational efficiency of the newsroom.

Palki Sharma is said to be preparing to embark on her own business endeavor following her departure from Firstpost. In early 2023, she transitioned to Firstpost following a significant departure from WION, where she established the widely acclaimed program Gravitas.

Santosh Menon, head of editorial and content for digital operations of News18, wrote in the memo, “It is with a heavy heart that I share an important leadership update at Firstpost. After a remarkable tenure as Managing Editor, Palki Sharma has decided to step down”.

As per the report, Menon further wrote, “During her time with Firstpost, Palki played a vital role in launching our prime-time show, Vantage, and contributed significantly to shaping its editorial tone”.

“She anchored the show with clarity, insight and an unwavering commitment to presenting global news through an Indian lens, earning widespread acclaim”.

 

“Beyond her role on air, Palki helped establish a strong editorial team and fostering a culture of journalistic excellence. We thank her for her contribution and wish her the very best in her future entrepreneurial pursuits”.

At Firstpost, a property owned by Network18, she introduced and hosted the prominent international news series Vantage, which quickly became one of the most viewed daily global news programs in the Indian digital landscape.

Under her editorial guidance, Firstpost experienced a notable enhancement in its international reporting, cultivated a unique perspective on global events from an Indian viewpoint, and significantly expanded its digital and YouTube viewership.

Palki Sharma has accumulated nearly 25 years of experience in journalism, having held positions at prominent organizations such as ITV Network, Network18, Doordarshan News, and The Hindustan Times.

Firstpost has designated the experienced journalist Binoy Prabhakar as the newly appointed Chief Content Officer to oversee editorial activities following the departure of Palki Sharma.
