Piyush Goyal Discusses Boosting India-Japan Economic Ties
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal engaged in discussions with a Japanese delegation spearheaded by Takayuki Kobayashi, a Member of the House of Representatives and Chairperson of the Liberal Democratic Party's Policy Research Council, with the objective of bolstering economic engagement between India and Japan and expanding bilateral collaboration across crucial sectors.
Providing an overview of the discussions, Goyal conveyed on X, "We deliberated on fortifying the economic collaboration between India and Japan, with a focus on enhancing partnerships with MSMEs and amplifying cooperation in pivotal sectors such as the automobile industry, infrastructure development, pharmaceuticals, and advanced manufacturing."

He emphasized the necessity of increasing exports from India and expanding market accessibility, stressing the significance of fostering a conducive business environment to promote trade and investment between the two nations.
The dialogues delved into prospective directions under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) as well as encompassing frameworks for economic collaboration within the Indo-Pacific realm.
The Minister emphasized that this engagement "reaffirmed our dedication to enhancing the business environment and intensifying economic connections with Japan, while also pinpointing novel opportunities for cross-sector collaboration."
In a recent development last week, Goyal presided over a review session concerning the Export Promotion Mission (EPM) and associated initiatives.
The goal was to fortify implementation strategies, improve stakeholder coordination, and refine monitoring systems with the aim of enhancing India's export performance.
The dialogue centered around bolstering implementation, improving stakeholder collaboration, and advancing monitoring structures, with a heightened focus on MSMEs, agricultural exports, and the promotion of Brand India," states Goyal.

The assembly highlighted the necessity of enhancing operational execution at the grassroots level to guarantee the effective implementation of export policies.
It also concentrated on sector-specific priorities and capacity development to expedite export growth, alongside strengthening monitoring mechanisms for the timely evaluation of progress.
A number of new areas have been recognized where the two countries could enhance cooperation over the next decade. The fields of semiconductors and electronics are considered particularly promising.

Japan excels in upstream semiconductor technologies, which matches well with India's swiftly growing electronics market and robust governmental policy backing. India's vast domestic market serves as a safeguard against global market fluctuations and offers a strong foundation for continuous business development.
Additionally, its strategic location on the geopolitical map increases its attractiveness for accessing markets in the Middle East and Africa. Japanese companies setting up manufacturing plants in India can leverage these global links to broaden their international reach. Moreover, India’s existing and forthcoming free trade agreements and bilateral collaborations with leading global economies have unlocked new markets in the face of global uncertainties.
