Ravi K Assumes Charge as 22nd Chairman & MD of HAL

Ravi K has taken over the responsibilities as the 22nd Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), following the retirement of Dr. D K Sunil, who stepped down on April 30, 2026.
Ravi possesses more than three decades of expertise spanning the aerospace and defense sectors, as well as manufacturing and electronics industries.

“My vision is to transform HAL into a globally competitive aerospace and defence enterprise, driven by innovation, Artificial Intelligence, operational excellence and people,” says Ravi K.
Before assuming this role, he held the position of Director of Operations at HAL, where he was instrumental in strategic planning and contributed significantly to HAL acquiring Maharatna status.
He has occupied prominent leadership positions, such as that of Executive Director and General Manager of the LCA Tejas Division, as well as the role of Executive Director for Corporate Planning.
Throughout his tenure, he successfully negotiated agreements for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), notably the procurement of 180 Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas for the Indian Air Force.

Additionally, he secured deals for 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) Prachand for both the Indian Army and Indian Air Force. He is also recognized for having made significant strides in operationalizing the LCA Tejas fleet within the Indian Air Force.
He enhanced the operational readiness of the fleet by implementing customer-centric strategies, facilitated data exchange with Indian Air Force bases, and instituted a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) to streamline customer support.
He has been deeply involved in enhancing the local content of the LCA Tejas initiative and increasing the production capabilities in Nasik. He also contributed to the establishment of a manufacturing ecosystem by delegating fuselage assembly tasks to partners in the private sector, a strategy that is currently yielding results with continuous product deliveries.

His efforts have facilitated the diversification of HAL into the realms of civil production and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO), thereby generating new revenue channels and broadening the company's market footprint.
Ravi K, a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Malnad College of Engineering in Karnataka, is also an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and the Institut Supérieur de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace (ISAE), Toulouse, France. In addition, he holds the position of Nominee Director on the board of Multi-Role Transport Aircraft Ltd.
