PM Modi, Italy's Dy PM Review Progress on Strategic Action Plan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Antonio Tajani, Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, to acknowledge the advancements achieved in the implementation of the Italy-India Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029.

During his three-day visit to India, Tajani met with PM Modi as part of a broader agenda to strengthen the bilateral partnership in various areas. His visit, which also involves a significant business delegation, demonstrates Italy's increasing emphasis on enhancing economic collaboration with India.

He expressed gratitude for the proactive measures being undertaken by both parties in the implementation of the Italy-India Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029 in vital sectors including trade, investment, research, innovation, defense, space, connectivity, counter-terrorism, education, and interpersonal relationships. He also emphasized that the bond between India and Italy is growing stronger, proving advantageous for both nations and the international community.

In addition, Tajani engaged in discussions with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during his visit, to enhance the continuous strategic dialogue between the two countries.

 

Jaishankar wrote on X that he and Tajani reviewed progress under the Joint Strategic Action Plan across "politics, defence, technology, innovation, maritime issues, mobility, space, trade, and investment."

He added, "Also appreciated joint efforts to counter terror financing. Dwelt on our cooperation with the EU, other regional, global and multilateral developments."

Setting the tone for the discussions, Jaishankar highlighted the foundation of India-Italy relations in shared democratic values and a mutual dedication to global peace and stability. He expressed India's appreciation for Italy's message of solidarity in response to the recent terrorist incident in New Delhi.

The dialogue furthered progress made earlier, such as a collaborative effort to combat terror financing that was announced during PM Modi's meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the G20 Summit. Jaishankar reaffirmed Italy's position as one of India's key allies in counterterrorism initiatives, especially within the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

In addition to security collaboration, both parties engaged in discussions on regional and global events, including developments in West Asia and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, highlighting the expanding geopolitical aspect of the partnership.

Tajani is scheduled to meet Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in Mumbai, with a focus on economic engagement anticipated to remain at the forefront.
