Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to take part in an event commemorating 10 years of the Startup India campaign, where he will engage with individuals from India's dynamic startup community.

'Startup India' was initiated on January 16, 2016 by the Prime Minister as a comprehensive national initiative aimed at fostering innovation, encouraging entrepreneurship, and facilitating growth through investment, all with the goal of transforming India into a country where individuals are creators of employment opportunities rather than seekers of jobs.

According to reports, the Prime Minister is scheduled to engage with individuals from India's dynamic startup community.

Chosen attendees from new, emerging businesses will offer valuable perspectives on their experiences as entrepreneurs.

Additionally, the Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver remarks to the audience during the event. During this time, India's startup landscape has experienced remarkable growth, with over 200,000 startups officially registered throughout the nation. These businesses have emerged as key contributors to the creation of jobs, the promotion of innovation-driven economic expansion, and the enhancement of local value chains across various industries.

'Startup India' has become a vital component of India's economic and innovation landscape.

Reports highlighted that it has enhanced institutional processes, broadened the availability of financial resources and guidance, and cultivated a supportive atmosphere for startups to flourish and expand in various industries and regions.

Last week, Prime Minister Modi encouraged startups to utilize artificial intelligence for the betterment of society. Leading a discussion with Indian AI startups at his residence on 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of making AI accessible, encompassing, and accountable. The government has reported a consistent expansion of the startup environment in the nation, with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) identifying over 201,335 startups eligible for benefits under the 'Startup India' campaign.

These startups have collectively generated more than 2.1 million employment opportunities across the country.

During the period of 2014-2024, there was a significant increase of 425 percent in the number of patent applications filed by Indian innovators within the country. Furthermore, India has seen an improvement in its ranking in the Global Innovation Index, moving up to 38th place in the GII 2025 ranking.
