Sigma Advanced Systems Bags Rs.208 Crore Export Order

Sigma Advanced Systems has obtained an export contract valued at Rs.208 crore ($21.97 million) to produce and deliver 40,000 units of 155 mm M107 artillery shell bodies to a customer in North America, enhancing India's expanding role in the international defense manufacturing supply chain.
The execution of the order will take six months, with production and delivery planned for completion by then.

The agreement represents a notable enhancement of Sigma's abilities in the defense industry. Recognized mainly as a maker of fuzes, the company will now manufacture entire artillery shell parts, expanding its footprint in the worldwide munitions industry.
The project entails the production of 155 mm artillery shell casings, which are the main structural element of artillery shells. Manufacturing necessitates specialized metallurgical knowledge, accurate machining, thermal processing, and rigorous quality assurance measures. The firm announced that it has secured the necessary export approval from the Department of Defence Production within the Ministry of Defense.
The 155 mm caliber is extensively utilized among NATO and allied artillery systems and continues to be the international benchmark for contemporary artillery systems. The need for artillery ammunition has surged significantly in recent years due to geopolitical tensions and heightened military modernization efforts globally, generating prospects for defense manufacturers able to deliver essential components in large quantities.

Commenting on the contract, Sunil Kalidindi, CEO and Executive Director of Sigma Advanced Systems, stated that it demonstrated the trust international clients have in India's defense manufacturing sector.
"This order strengthens our position within the global defence supply chain and demonstrates our ability to support international customers with world-class manufacturing capabilities from India," he says.
The firm stated that the collaboration enhances its reputation as a global manufacturing ally for the defence sector and may lead to potential prospects in ammunition production and associated defense initiatives.
India aims to enhance defense exports as part of its larger effort to cultivate a domestic defence manufacturing framework and lessen dependence on imports. The government has established bold goals for defense manufacturing and exports, promoting involvement from the private sector in the industry.
