Tata Motors, Amazon Partner to Deploy 3,000 Electric Trucks

Amazon and Tata Motors have revealed a partnership to introduce 3,000 electric trucks throughout Amazon's logistics network in India.
The rollout will be the biggest electric-truck deployment by an ecommerce firm in India and represents Amazon’s major effort to broaden fleet electrification beyond final-mile delivery.

The electric trucks will facilitate the transfer of customer shipments between facilities, throughout cities, and along national freight routes.
“Through PM E-DRIVE, the Government will continue to support this transition, and I look forward to more such efforts in powering green logistics,” says Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, Hon’ble Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, Government of India.
The intended deployment of 3,000 electric trucks signifies a significant enhancement to India’s electric truck inventory, highlighting a crucial advancement in expanding electric freight transport nationwide. Tata Motors will provide electric trucks to meet Amazon's transportation needs, and Amazon's carrier partners will possess and manage the vehicles.
The partnership unites Amazon’s logistics system and sustained freight needs with the engineering, manufacturing, and service strengths of Tata Motors—India’s leading commercial vehicle producer. The companies collaborate to tackle significant obstacles to adoption and showcase how zero-emission trucks can function on a large scale.

“By combining our strengths, we aim to accelerate the deployment of electric trucks across more routes, starting with intracity operations and expanding to India’s major freight corridors,” says Abhinav Singh, Vice President, Operations, Amazon, APAC, Middle East, Africa and Turkey.
The first phase will start in Delhi during India’s festive period, when freight volumes in e-commerce and retail supply chains hit their yearly high. Amazon is set to use light- and medium-duty electric trucks from Tata Motors throughout its middle-mile transportation system.
The upcoming phase will involve extending the deployment to key national highways, aiming to electrify the 2,800-km Delhi–Bengaluru–Chennai corridor along NH48—India's longest freight corridor—covering seven states and linking six of the nation’s largest e-commerce hubs. Specialized charging infrastructure, including facilities being developed with Yahhvi, a provider of charging solutions, will facilitate this growth.
The implementation comes after Delhi’s 2026 EV Policy was introduced, providing substantial benefits for early adopters: the first 1,000 privately owned medium-duty electric trucks registered in the initial three months following the policy launch can access the city at any hour—avoiding the regular "No Entry" restrictions—for a complete 10 years.

It additionally aids India’s larger effort for cleaner transport and freight electrification, alongside programs like the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) and PARIVARTAN.
The partnership enhances Amazon's efforts to electrify its transport network in India, with support from 10 charging stations established by Yahhvi across the nation.
As a co-founder of The Climate Pledge, Amazon aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 and is backing efforts to speed up the electrification of commercial fleets in India.
