The India Semiconductor Mission Appoints Amitesh Kumar Sinha as CEO

According to reports, Amitesh Kumar Sinha has been appointed as the chief executive of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). Sinha, who was earlier this month named an additional secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), takes over from Sushil Pal at the ISM.

This appointment arrives at a critical moment as the government prepares to initiate the second phase of the India Semiconductor Mission. Sinha has previously served as the CEO of ISM too.

He had also served earlier as a joint secretary at Meity. He oversaw policy development and the advancement of the electronics sector via different initiatives, including production-linked incentives for mobile devices, IT hardware, electronic components, and the semiconductor field through the Semicon India Program.

An officer of the 1996 Indian Railway Accounts Service batch, Sinha is a graduate of civil engineering from Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur.


Previously, Shri Sinha served as Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), where he led key initiatives such as the 'Semiconductor and Display Manufacturing Programme' and the Production Incentive Schemes for Large Scale Electronics and IT Hardware.

Throughout his time, he additionally served as the CEO of ISM, significantly contributing to the progression of India’s semiconductor and display manufacturing landscape, including semiconductor and display fabs, compound semiconductor packaging, design projects, and the enhancement of the Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL).
