President Donald Trump stated that he had come to an agreement with President Xi Jinping permitting US chip company Nvidia to export sophisticated artificial intelligence chips to China.

The announcement signified a major change in US export policy regarding advanced AI chips, which Joe Biden's administration had extensively limited due to national security worries related to Chinese military usage.

Congressional Democrats swiftly rejected the change as a significant error that will benefit the Chinese military and economy.

In a message on his Truth Social network, Trump stated that he had notified Xi that the U.S. would allow Nvidia to send its H200 products to "approved clients in China and other nations, under conditions that ensure strong National Security remains intact."

"President Xi reacted favorably! $25 percent will be sent to the United States of America," Trump stated, lacking specifics on the payment process.

Trump attacked his predecessor's strategy, claiming it "made our Great Companies spend BILLIONS OF DOLLARS creating 'inferior' products that nobody desired, a dreadful notion that hampered Innovation and harmed the American Worker."

This pertained to the Biden administration's mandate for chip manufacturers to develop adapted, lower-capacity versions specifically for the Chinese market.

These chips possessed limited functionalities -- such as decreased processing speeds -- to adhere to export control regulations.

Due to restrictions instituted during the Biden administration, the H200 and comparable advanced chips were prohibited from being exported to China.

An Nvidia spokesperson says, "We commend President Trump's choice to enable the American chip industry to compete, fostering high-paying jobs and manufacturing in the U.S.''

Providing H200 to authorized commercial clients, screened by the Department of Commerce, achieves a considerate equilibrium that benefits America.

Trump emphasized that Nvidia's most advanced chips -- the Blackwell series and forthcoming Rubin processors -- are not included in the agreement and remain available only to US customers.
