Union Civil Aviation Minister Flags off Dhruv NG in Bengaluru

Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu ceremoniously initiated the first flight of the state-of-the-art civil helicopter, Dhruv NG, produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, in response to the demands of the civil aviation sector. Before departing from HAL, the minister actively participated in the pre-flight preparations and accompanied the pilot in the cockpit to better understand the intricate systems and functionalities of the helicopter.

According to HAL, the Dhruv NG is a sophisticated 5.5-tonne light twin-engine helicopter designed to excel in the varied and challenging conditions of the Indian landscape.

It has been specifically enhanced to adhere to the stringent standards of the international civil aviation industry.

The helicopter, symbolizing a significant achievement in domestic rotary-wing technology, was constructed with a focus on improving safety, efficiency, and the comfort of its passengers.

The helicopter is outfitted with dual Shakti 1H1C engines, offering increased power levels and the benefit of servicing capabilities within the boundaries of India.

They stated that the aircraft is equipped with a cutting-edge, civil-certified glass cockpit that meets AS4 standards, along with a state-of-the-art avionics suite designed to enhance situational awareness.

Dhruv NG is equipped with crashworthy seats, self-sealing fuel tanks, and a twin-engine design to ensure safety and reliability in its operations. The officials highlighted the helicopter's sophisticated vibration control systems designed to guarantee a comfortable and smooth ride, specifically catered to VIP and medical transportation needs

The officials provided a detailed account of the next-generation civil helicopter's specifications, including a maximum takeoff weight of 5,500 kg, a maximum speed of approximately 285 km/h, a range of about 630 km with a 20-minute reserve, an endurance of roughly three hours and 40 minutes, a service ceiling of around 6,000 meters (capable of operating at high altitudes), and an internal payload capacity of approximately 1,000 kg.

The Dhruv NG is equipped with a versatile cabin measuring 7.33 cubic meters, allowing for customization to suit different civilian purposes.

 

In terms of VIP/VVIP transportation, it offers opulent seating for four to six passengers, accommodating up to 14 passengers at full capacity. In its function as a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (Air Ambulance), the helicopter is configured to accommodate four stretchers, in addition to a doctor and an attendant.

Some of its specific functions involve conducting offshore missions, enforcing the law, and providing aid during emergencies, such as search and rescue operations (SAR). HAL describes the Dhruv Civil NG as a cost-efficient, high-performing option in comparison to imported light twin-engine helicopters.
