Tata Electronics, NIELIT Kohima to Skill Youth of Nagaland

imgTata Electronics, a significant corporation in the electronics and semiconductor production industry, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kohima branch of the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), which operates under the administrative oversight of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, part of the Government of India.

Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tata Electronics, the initiative seeks to develop training programs focused on semiconductor assembly, testing, marking, and packaging processes.

The primary objective of this partnership is to enhance the semiconductor workforce development infrastructure in India and effectively mitigate the current skills shortage within the country's semiconductor industry.

Through this collaborative agreement, Tata Electronics and NIELIT Kohima will work together to create professional-level training programs and educational frameworks, alongside developing comprehensive course materials and professional certifications.

These initiatives are aimed at preparing young Indian professionals with the critical competencies required for careers in semiconductor Assembly, Test, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) and associated technological domains.

Moreover, Tata Electronics will provide practical learning opportunities for students through internship programs and professional skill development initiatives to help them become fully prepared for the professional workplace.

The partnership aims to strategically support and develop young people in Nagaland and the wider Northeastern region of India, with the goal of helping them become engaged contributors to the country's expanding semiconductor industry.

 

Tata Electronics is constructing a large-scale semiconductor manufacturing and testing plant in Jagiroad, located in the state of Assam. The proposed manufacturing facility is anticipated to generate approximately 27,000 job opportunities, with 15,000 of those being direct employment positions.

Through its collaborative effort with NIELIT, Tata Electronics aims to provide comprehensive training and skill development for young people in Northeast India, equipping them with the essential competencies required for the semiconductor sector, both within the Assam facility and across other regions of the country.

Speaking about the MoU, Dr Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD, Tata Electronics, says, "The Government of India has envisioned the establishment of a self-sufficient electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India. To build a strong semiconductor industry and for India to become a key player in the global semiconductor value chain, talent is one of the fundamental requirements."

Discussing the partnership, Dr Madan Mohan Tripathi, Director General, NIELIT, says, "At NIELIT, we are committed to fostering an academic and research environment which will not only prepare Indian students to chart a successful path in this industry but will also nurture an innovation-driven mind-set."
