Unsoo Kim to Step Down as Hyundai Motor India MD

Hyundai Motor India Ltd announced that Unsoo Kim will resign as Managing Director and Director, effective at the end of business, indicating a leadership change at the nation's second-largest automaker.

The firm announced that Tarun Garg will assume the roles of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer starting January 1, 2026. Garg will be the first Indian to head Hyundai Motor India's operations since the South Korean manufacturer entered the nation.

Hyundai Motor India revealed several senior management departures in a regulatory filing along with the leadership transition. Jeongick Lee, Head of Corporate Affairs, has resigned, and Hyoung Soon Yoon, Head of Product Strategy and Planning, along with Jae Wan Ryu, Head of Corporate Planning, have also left their positions.

Garg began his career at Hyundai after spending over 25 years at Maruti Suzuki India, where he rose to the position of Executive Director (Marketing). Throughout his time at India’s biggest car manufacturer, he oversaw multiple critical functions such as sales strategy, area operations, and network growth, and was instrumental in the introduction and growth of NEXA, Maruti Suzuki’s upscale retail network.

Garg, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow with an MBA in marketing, also possesses a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Delhi College of Engineering. Hyundai stated that his combination of technical skills and marketing leadership uniquely qualifies him to guide the company into its next stage of expansion in India.

Hyundai Motor India declined to provide additional information on succession strategies for the exiting senior management positions.
