UP Government Invests Rs 700 Crore Kanpur EV Manufacturing Plant

The government of Uttar Pradesh plans to make Kanpur a significant center for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing with an investment of approximately Rs 700 crore.
As part of the Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision - 2030, the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) will create a state-of-the-art EV park on over 500 acres near Bhimsen, adjacent to the dedicated freight corridor.
With an estimated investment of Rs 700 crore, the initiative will be implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach, positioning Kanpur as a critical player in India's electric vehicle landscape.
The main goal of this EV park is to enhance the local supply chain for electric vehicles and encourage indigenous production. The facility will include units for the manufacturing of electric motors, chassis, steel components, and lithium-ion cells. Moreover, it will feature facilities for the assembly of lithium-ion batteries, chargers, controllers, and electronic parts.
A dedicated research and development (R&D) center will be an essential component of this initiative, promoting innovation and facilitating advanced product development. This R&D center is anticipated to benefit not only local advancements but also contribute to the overall progress of EV technologies worldwide.
The government is confident that the creation of the EV park will establish Kanpur as a manufacturing hub for electric vehicles while significantly enhancing the state's economy.
In conjunction with the park, an integrated cluster for EV components is being established to assist small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in manufacturing parts and components.
