US to Expand Travel Ban to Over 30 Countries

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that the United States plans to broaden its travel restrictions to include more than 30 countries.
In an interview on Fox News' The Ingraham Angle, Noem was asked whether President Donald Trump's administration would extend the travel ban to encompass 32 countries.
“I won’t give a precise number, but it is over 30, and the president is still evaluating countries,” she said.
In June, President Trump signed an order banning citizens from 12 countries and imposing restrictions on travelers from seven more nations. The directive cited national security concerns, claiming that the measure was crucial to safeguard against “foreign terrorists” and other threats. The limitations affect both immigrants and non-immigrants, including tourists, students, and business visitors.

Noem did not reveal which countries might be included but mentioned that the administration was assessing nations' stability and ability to provide information about their citizens.
“If a country lacks a stable government, cannot support itself, and fails to help us identify and vet individuals, why should we allow people from that nation to come to the United States?” she remarked.

Earlier, Reuters reported that the administration was considering adding citizens from 36 more countries to the list, according to a State Department cable.
The possible expansion follows recent security incidents, including last week’s shooting of two National Guard members in Washington, D.C. Officials indicated that the suspect, a citizen of Afghanistan, entered the U.S. in 2021 through a resettlement program that authorities now assert lacked sufficient screening.

After the incident, President Trump revealed a proposal to “permanently pause” immigration from what he labeled “Third World Countries,” but he did not indicate which countries that description included. Officials from Homeland Security also verified that Trump had mandated an examination of asylum cases authorized during the prior Biden administration and Green Cards granted to individuals from 19 nations.
