Vantage Data Centers to Invest in Shackelford County Campus in Texas

Vantage Data Centers plans to invest over $25 billion to establish a 1,200-acre data center campus in Shackelford County, Texas, driven by the rising need for artificial intelligence infrastructure, leading to large-scale projects.
Supported by private equity company Silver Lake and asset management firm DigitalBridge, Vantage stated that the 1.4-gigawatt campus, named Frontier, is the largest within its worldwide portfolio.
Chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini require significant computing power, increasing the need for specialized data centers. These facilities are expensive because they need advanced chips, powerful servers, sufficient power, and cooling systems.
Firms such as Alphabet, Microsoft, and Meta Platforms are investing billions of dollars to grow and develop their data center operations.
Vantage announces that construction has started on the campus, which will host 10 data centers and accommodate ultra-high-density racks surpassing 250 kilowatts each. The initial structure is expected in the latter half of next year.

Following its exit from Vantage in 2017, Silver Lake announced it received an invitation to return on a proprietary basis in 2023 to aid in capital raising and co-lead a $9.2 billion equity financing alongside DigitalBridge in 2024.
