In Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, Vietnamese electric car giant VinFast officially unveiled its electric vehicle (EV) production plant and has planned phased investments of Rs. 16,000 crore for the plant.

M K Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, officially opened the factory. VinFast Tamil Nadu is the fifth project in the company's global production network and its third operational factory.

VinFast Tamil Nadu's first phase will be devoted to putting together the VF 7 and VF 6, two high-end electric SUV models. To satisfy the growing market demand, the plant's initial capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year can be increased to 150,000 units annually.

According to the firm, this milestone is a significant step in VinFast's global expansion and highlights the company's long-term commitment to the third-largest vehicle market in the world. It also highlights VinFast's trust in India's critical role in the future of the global EV sector.

Being the first VinFast location opened outside of Vietnam, it showcases the company's ability to complete large-scale projects as well as its global perspective.

The 400-acre facility is furnished with cutting-edge production lines that satisfy international standards, showcasing sophisticated automation and innovative technology.

Numerous workshops, including a body shop, paint shop, assembly shop, quality control center, and logistics hub, are located within the complex. Additionally, it has an auxiliary cluster for regional contractors, which is anticipated to grow over the next several years.

The facility will generate between 3,000 and 3,500 direct jobs for locals when it reaches full capacity, in addition to thousands of indirect jobs throughout the supply chain ecosystem. Tamil Nadu's socioeconomic development will be aided by this, establishing the state as an Indian manufacturing center and, soon, a possible South Asian EV capital.

VinFast is getting closer to its long-term manufacturing goal of one million vehicles annually by 2030 and its 2025 sales objective of 200,000 vehicles with the opening of the Tamil Nadu factory. VinFast's dedication to improving sustainable mobility and a greener future in India and around the world is reaffirmed by this milestone.

In addition to enhancing the company's capacity for production on a worldwide scale, VinFast makes a substantial contribution to the growth of India's green industry. The plant will place a high priority on working with domestic suppliers, encouraging personnel upskilling, technology transfer, and supply chain localization.

With the 400-acre Tamil Nadu plant serving as a key link in this value chain, VinFast has aggressively pursued a comprehensive EV ecosystem model since entering India, encompassing assembly, distribution, after-sales services, and recycling. To establish a strong network of digital services and post-purchase assistance, VinFast has concurrently partnered with several dealer groups in strategic cities as well as RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure. In the third-largest car market in the world, VinFast has also partnered with BatX Energies to facilitate battery recovery and reuse, promoting circular production and sustainable development.

As one of the biggest conglomerates in Vietnam and a subsidiary of Vingroup JSC, VinFast is a pure-play EV manufacturer whose goal is to make EVs affordable for all. VinFast offers a large selection of electric SUVs, e-scooters, and e-buses.
