WCL Appoints Anandji Prasad as Director of Technical, Project & Planning

Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has appointed Anandji Prasad as Director (Technical/Project & Planning).

Before joining WCL, Prasad was serving as a Project Advisor at the Ministry of Coal (MoC) since July 2021, where he played a key role in developing major policies, schemes, and initiatives in the coal and energy sectors, significantly influencing policy decisions..

A Graduate of Mining Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, Prasad holds a First Class Coal Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (1994). With nearly 35 years of professional experience, he is a seasoned expert in the coal and energy sectors. He also possesses postgraduate diplomas in Management and Computer Applications and earned a law degree from Ranchi University in 2010.

Prasad began his career in 1989 as an executive trainee with Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL), a Coal India Limited (CIL) subsidiary. Over the years, he gained extensive expertise in planning and designing coal and metal mines, and coal mine operations and management.

Prasad is recognized for his innovative contributions, including the introduction of continuous miner technology in underground mines and the development of model Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) documents for CIL mines. He also led digital transformation initiatives in seven CIL opencast mines, successfully reopened dormant mines, and earned NABL accreditation for CMPDIL’s mining laboratory.

His extensive experience and forward-thinking approach are set to strengthen WCL’s technical and project planning functions significantly.
