White House Hails India-US Trade Pact as Historic Victory

White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai praised the India-US agreement as monumental. Desai stated that the agreement was a triumph for every American.

In a post on X, he stated, The Dealmaker in Chief has achieved a trade agreement with a rapidly expanding, top five global economy housing more than one billion inhabitants. Another landmark triumph for American laborers, farmers, and sectors.

On Tuesday, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, India's Ambassador to the US, praised the India-US agreement, stating it would create significant opportunities for both countries.

Kwatra stated that the discussions between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi signify an exciting new phase in the collaboration between the two countries.

In a message on X, he stated, "A major WIN for a significant partnership led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump. India and the USA declare a trade agreement that opens up significant new prospects for both economies and the citizens of our two great countries. Today's announcements signal an exhilarating new stage in our collaboration."

The agreement provided India with reduced tariff rates compared to Pakistan. According to the Executive Order from US President Donald Trump dated July 31, 2025, reciprocal tariff rates for Pakistan were set at 19 percent.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the Department of State on Tuesday. The meeting is set for 3:30 pm (local US time).

The meeting is a component of Jaishankar's three-day trip to the United States, during which he will take part in the first Critical Minerals Ministerial on February 4, organized by Washington.

Prior to the ministerial, the US Department of State revealed that Secretary Rubio will unite partners worldwide to enhance collaboration on essential mineral supply chains.
