Indonesia is one of the emerging market economies in the world and is the largest economy in the Southeast Asia. It is a middle income country classified under newly industrialized country. It is the 15th largest in terms of nominal GDP and is expected to be seventh largest economy in the world by 2030. Indonesia's economic freedom score is 66.9, making its economy the 56th freest in the 2021 Index. Mineral fuels, animal & vegetable fat, electrical machinery, rubber, machinery, and mechanical appliance parts are the key exports of the country.
Indonesia is one of the best countries in Southeast Asia to establish business, expand and make important connections. Blessed with rich natural resources, population and strategic location, the nation presents abundant business opportunities for both locals and foreigners. The country excels in several factors such as starting businesses, registering property, and attaining credit.
The economy of Indonesia has been constantly increasing over the last five years, strongly supported by the increasing number of foreign workers in Indonesia. In 2018, the Ministry of Manpower recorded a 10.88 percent increase in total foreign workers, the all-time highest increase. By the end of the year, there were 95,335 expats working in Indonesia, with more than 33 percent of that number coming from China, Japan, and Korea. The country also offer many restrictions to foreigners to work in the country. It is estimated that there are around 25,000 PIOs/NRIs living in Indonesia.
