5G Use Case Workshop at IIT Gandhinagar Spotlights Sectoral Applications

TheThe National Telecommunications Institute for Policy Research, Innovation, and Training (NTIPRIT), operating under the aegis of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), organized a two-day workshop at IIT Gandhinagar aimed at fostering awareness and readiness for 5G technology deployment titled “5G Use Case Labs: Awareness and Pre-Commissioning Readiness”.

The workshop was geared towards stimulating innovation in 5G technology applications, with a specific focus on setting up 100 5G labs nationwide, supported by funding from the DoT. Over 100 participants representing 18 institutions from the Western region actively engaged in the workshop sessions.

Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary of Science & Technology, Gujarat, highlighted the significance of formulating use cases to optimize 5G network utilization. She urged for the expedited establishment of the proposed 100 5G labs, stressing the importance of cohesive coordination among academic institutions to maximize their potential impact.

Professor Amit Prashant, Dean of Research and Development at IIT Gandhinagar, emphasized the critical role of innovation in driving societal progress. He commended the initiative for its potential to bring about significant positive change.

During the workshop, startups and industry stakeholders presented diverse potential use cases for 5G technology across various sectors such as enterprises, education, agriculture, health, and e-commerce.

The event served as a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange, facilitating a deeper understanding of the transformative capabilities of 5G technology across different industries and sectors. It underscored the proactive approach of the DoT in advancing technological innovation and fostering ecosystem development.
