Adani Green Energy Launches Battery Storage System in Gujarat
Adani Green Energy has launched a groundbreaking 3.37 gigawatt-hour (GWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Khavda, Gujarat, representing the largest single-site battery storage initiative globally outside China and among the quickest utility-scale setups worldwide, finalized in only 10 months of development.
The achievement encompasses 1.37 GWh of capacity added in March 2026, increasing AGEL’s overall operational BESS capacity at Khavda to 3.37 GWh.

Sagar Adani, Executive Director of AGEL, highlighted the critical role of extensive storage in India's shift to clean energy.
“As renewable energy capacity scales rapidly, storage infrastructure becomes critical for delivering reliable, round-the-clock clean power. With the commissioning of the 3.37 GWh BESS at Khavda, AGEL is strengthening the foundation for resilient, dispatchable and flexible energy systems,” he says.
The Khavda BESS combines cutting-edge energy management systems with lithium-ion technology to enhance efficiency and responsiveness. It is positioned strategically within AGEL’s extensive renewable energy facility, where the firm is working on 30 GW of capacity by 2029, with 9.9 GW currently in operation.
AGEL intends to increase its battery storage capacity by more than 10 GWh in FY27 and expand to 50 GWh within the next five years, solidifying its dedication to developing a future-oriented clean energy infrastructure on a global level.
The commissioning represents a significant achievement in enhancing grid reliability, peak-hour delivery, and facilitating renewable energy to provide consistent, around-the-clock power at scale.
