Amazon CEO Andy Jassy in India and Announces Expansion Plans

Amazon has revealed intentions to extend Amazon Now, its rapid-delivery service, to consumers in more than 300 cities throughout India.
Amazon aims to expand its specialized fulfillment network to provide a wide array of products to customers nationwide, developing a quick delivery system.
The visit occurs as Amazon intensifies its emphasis on quick commerce in the nation. In April, Amazon announced its intention to launch the service in 100 cities and develop a network of 1,000 stores to facilitate the growth.
“We are seeing a great response from customers, especially Prime members who triple their shopping frequency once they start using Amazon Now. We have further accelerated our expansion and will offer ultra-fast deliveries to customers in over 300 cities of India,” says Samir Kumar, country manager, Amazon India.
Amazon Now currently operates over 500 dark stores and is accessible in more than 15 metropolitan and non-metropolitan cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Amritsar, and Kochi, among others.

During the earnings call for the March quarter, Jassy mentioned that Amazon Now's orders are increasing by 25 percent each month and that Prime members increase their shopping frequency threefold after they begin using the service.
In February, Amazon India revealed plans to invest Rs.2,800 crore (approximately $300 million) to enhance its infrastructure and operations nationwide, particularly targeting quick commerce. This investment was part of Amazon's earlier declared intention to invest $35 billion in India by 2030.

The programs encompass scholarships for the education of employees’ children, facilitating access to government benefits and financial inclusion initiatives, extensive insurance coverage, and additional services. Part of Amazon India’s newly revealed $300 million investment in operations and employee welfare will be allocated to enhance this initiative.
As a component of ‘Sammaan’, Amazon plans to increase its Ashray rest centers available to all delivery associates in the sector to 250 locations this year.
