
AMD and OpenAI Announce Strategic Partnership

AMD and OpenAI revealed a 6 gigawatt deal to supply energy for OpenAI’s future AI frameworks utilizing various generations of AMD Instinct GPUs. The initial 1 gigawatt rollout of AMD Instinct MI450 GPUs is scheduled to start in the latter half of 2026.
AMD’s robust leadership in high-performance computing systems, combined with OpenAI's groundbreaking research and developments in generative AI, positions both companies at the leading edge of this significant and crucial era for AI.
Through this conclusive agreement, OpenAI will collaborate with AMD as a key strategic computing partner to facilitate extensive implementations of AMD technology, beginning with the AMD Instinct MI450 series and rack-scale AI solutions, while also encompassing future generations.
Through the exchange of technical knowledge aimed at enhancing their product roadmaps, AMD and OpenAI are strengthening their ongoing multi-generational partnership in hardware and software that started with the MI300X and progressed with the MI350X series.

Under the terms of the agreement, to better align strategic goals, AMD has granted OpenAI a warrant for a maximum of 160 million shares of AMD common stock, designed to vest upon the achievement of certain milestones. The initial tranche vests with the first 1 gigawatt deployment, while further tranches vest as purchases increase to 6 gigawatts.
Vesting is additionally connected to AMD meeting specific share-price goals and to OpenAI reaching the technical and commercial benchmarks necessary for facilitating AMD's large-scale deployments.
