The state-owned engineering company Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has obtained a contract from Nigeria's Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Free Zone Enterprise for supplying and overseeing the installation and commissioning of eight gas turbine generator packages.

The contract, obtained in the face of fierce global rivalry, has been made by Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Free Zone Enterprise, a division of the Dangote Group, according to the company’s announcement.

The organization is among Africa's largest and most varied business conglomerates, with ventures that include oil refining, petrochemicals, fertilizers, cement, sugar, packaging, and additional industries.

The project entails the production and delivery of eight gas turbine generator packages, in addition to overseeing the installation and commissioning processes at the project location. The apparatus will be produced at BHEL's plants located in Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

The order represents a key milestone for BHEL, as it is the largest single order the company has ever received for the supply and supervision of gas turbine generator packages, in both quantity and value. This order will boost BHEL's global visibility and showcase BHEL's abilities as an international engineering company.

BHEL has built a robust presence in Africa by successfully completing power sector projects in nations like Egypt, Ethiopia, Libya, Rwanda, Senegal, and Sudan, in addition to providing a diverse array of products and equipment to many other African countries.

The firm has earlier completed a contract for supplying and overseeing the installation and commissioning of a 26 MW gas turbine generator package for the government of Cross River State, Nigeria. The firm has been producing and providing gas turbines to numerous clients in India and overseas for over forty years and ranks among the top global manufacturers of gas turbines and generators.

BHEL has provided almost 250 gas turbines, over 20 percent of which were sent to international clients, showcasing its engineering and manufacturing expertise in the industry.

Earlier, BHEL effectively designed and evaluated India's first homegrown 1200 kV Ultra High Voltage Alternating Current (UHVAC) transformer rated at 333 MVA.

The transformer has been developed, produced, and type-tested completely utilizing BHEL's internal research and development (R&D). The successful development and internationally recognized type testing of the transformer position India among a limited number of countries that have this advanced UHVAC transformer technology.

The machinery was produced in a regulated setting at BHEL's recently constructed transformer plant in Bhopal, utilizing state-of-the-art manufacturing and testing facilities to comply with rigorous quality standards.

BHEL stated that this accomplishment marks an important move towards independence in ultra-high-voltage AC transmission systems. The nation aims to advance from its current 765 kV transmission system by establishing a 1200 kV transmission network as a component of its national grid growth.
