Delhi Airport to Distribute over 6,000 Seed Balls to Flyers to Mark the World Environment Day

Authorities at Delhi Airport will hand out more than 6,000 seed balls to travelers in the Arrival area of Terminal 1 in celebration of World Environment Day today. The airport's operator, Delhi International Airport Limited, stated that this initiative aims to enhance biodiversity, boost green cover, and promote carbon sequestration among passengers.
Seed balls are an inexpensive and effective way to grow trees. They consist of seeds surrounded by a mix of clay and compost and can be dispersed onto the soil with minimal maintenance. The seeds later sprout.
"The seed balls feature a thoughtfully selected combination of fruit-bearing and environmentally beneficial tree species such as lemon, tamarind, and gooseberry, alongside neem and peepal. These species were chosen for their ecological importance, medicinal benefits, and capability to flourish in diverse climatic conditions," DIAL remarked.
Local communities have created the seed balls, offering them a sustainable means of livelihood.
"The fruit-bearing trees that will emerge from the seed balls scattered by travelers will support sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities," DIAL adds.
CEO-DIAL Videh Kumar Jaipuriar says that through their unique seed ball distribution campaign, they were inviting passengers to actively participate in reforestation and ecological preservation.
