As countries around the world compete to attract highly skilled AI, technology and STEM professionals, India continues to be one of the strongest sources of engineering and digital talent. Recognising this, Finland is strengthening its focus on India as a priority market for international talent through Business Finland's Work in Finland unit.

The country is making it easier for Indian professionals to explore careers and learn about working culture in one of Europe's most innovation-driven economies, supported by clear residence permit pathways and opportunities in sectors seeking international expertise, alongside a high quality of life and work culture.

Finland has a fast-track service for specialists, startup founders, ICT managers and top or middle managers, with eligible applicants and their families to receive a first residence permit decision within two weeks, subject to meeting all application requirements.

Laura Lindeman, Senior Director & Head of the Work in Finland Unit at Business Finland  says, "Global competition for highly skilled technology professionals continues to grow, and India represents one of the world's strongest sources of engineering and innovation talent. Our goal is to build long-term connections between Indian professionals and Finnish employers, while making it easier for skilled talent and their families to explore career opportunities in Finland."

As Finnish companies continue to invest in AI, digitalisation and advanced technologies, they continue to attract international specialists in selected technology and engineering fields where global expertise is valued. Opportunities are available across AI, cybersecurity, software engineering, quantum technologies, digital technologies, health tech, robotics, space technologies, maritime industries and advanced manufacturing.

Indian professionals with Master's and PhD degrees in technical and scientific fields, as well as experienced engineers and IT specialists, are well positioned for opportunities, particularly in export-oriented and global roles where Finnish language skills are not required from day one. Companies including Nokia, ICEYE, Tietoevry, KONE, Wärtsilä and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Finland regularly recruit technology and engineering professionals across software development, AI, cloud computing, industrial technology and sustainability.

Himadri Majumdar, CEO and co-founder of SemiQon, leading quantum startup, who relocated to Finland over two decades ago notes that Finnish work culture offers greater autonomy and flatter hierarchies than many Indian workplaces, with a strong emphasis on personal responsibility and trust.

“In Finland, your professional autonomy is taken seriously; you are trusted to own your work, make decisions and grow in your role. The hierarchy feels lighter than in most Indian organisations, and while feedback may not come very often, when it does, it is constructive and focused on helping you develop further,” says Himadri.

As Finland continues to build its long-term international talent pipeline, Work in Finland is strengthening collaboration with employers and partners to connect skilled Indian professionals with relevant opportunities with Finnish companies, research organisations and innovation-led businesses.
