Foxconn announced a partnership with OpenAI, headquartered in the US, to create and develop data center racks, components, and various AI hardware, as both companies aim to take advantage of the surging need for AI infrastructure.

Although the original agreement lacks purchase commitments or financial responsibilities, Foxconn stated that OpenAI will have preliminary access to assess the systems and a right to purchase them.

The partnership will provide Foxconn, the leading contract electronics manufacturer globally, an understanding of the increasing computing demands of major AI companies and assist in creating products that cater to the needs of sophisticated large language models.

OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman has stated that the company is dedicated to investing $1.4 trillion to create 30 gigawatts of computing power - sufficient to approximately supply energy to 25 million homes in the US.

Foxconn will produce the data center parts, which consist of cables, power systems, and networking equipment at its US locations, strengthening supply chains and avoiding any potential tariffs from the Trump administration.
