Hyundai and Radio Mirchi Launch Traffic Quality Index

Hyundai Motor India, together with Radio Mirchi, has introduced the Hyundai Traffic Quality Index (TQI), a live traffic evaluation system aimed at making it easier for commuters to comprehend and react to city traffic situations.
The program has been introduced in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, and Kolkata, integrating real-time traffic information, Radio Mirchi’s local insights, and official traffic authority updates to inform commuters about congestion, detours, and other route conditions.
Motivated by the straightforwardness of the Air Quality Index, TQI employs a 1-to-10 traffic scoring system, backed by a color-coded structure. Ratings from 1 to 3 signify light traffic and are colored green, ratings from 4 to 7 represent moderate traffic and are colored yellow, whereas ratings from 8 to 10 signify heavy traffic and are colored red.

The system aims to assist commuters in predicting traffic jams, evaluating different routes, and making travel choices prior to and during their trips. Traffic information will be transmitted through Radio Mirchi’s programing network, enabling drivers to access traffic updates without using mobile devices. The index aggregates various information sources, such as live traffic monitoring, Radio Mirchi’s extensive local insights, official traffic authority notices, updates on road closures and diversions, and alerts concerning special events and scheduled civic and infrastructure projects.
TQI is designed with a uniform traffic language aimed at simplifying the interpretation of intricate traffic situations. The scale from 1 to 10 classifies traffic into three categories: Green for ratings between 1 and 3, representing light traffic; Yellow for ratings from 4 to 7, representing moderate traffic; and Red for ratings ranging from 8 to 10, representing heavy traffic.
The system integrates technology, human intelligence, and authoritative information. Its inputs comprise live traffic data, Radio Mirchi’s local insights, advisories from traffic authorities, road closures and reroutes, as well as alerts about special events and scheduled civic or infrastructure activities.
The updates are subsequently shared via Radio Mirchi’s programming network, enabling travelers to receive information while they are on the go.

The initiative showcases Hyundai’s commitment to road safety and mobility beyond its automobiles, while Radio Mirchi contributes its local presence and field reporting to the effort. The partners plan to broaden the index to additional cities and enhance its data functionalities as the project progresses.
Expressing his thoughts, Yatish Mehrishi, CEO, ENIL, says, “Radio has always been a trusted companion for people on the move. With the Traffic Quality Index, we are taking that relationship a step further by making traffic information simpler, more consistent and more useful for everyday commuters. Our presence across cities, supported by our RJs, on-ground teams and real-time local insights, gives us a unique understanding of how people experience their daily commute. TQI brings these insights together in an easy-to-understand format that can help people make better decisions on the road. We are delighted to partner with Hyundai to build a public utility that can make urban commuting smarter and safer. It is a strong example of how media, technology and local intelligence can come together to solve an everyday consumer need”.
