IKEA to Open Second Bengaluru Store on November 5th

IKEA India is set to launch its second store in Bengaluru at Konanakunte Cross on November 5, enhancing its physical footprint with smaller urban outlets as the Swedish furniture brand aims to strengthen its presence in existing markets and explore new cities.
The 80,000-sq-ft outlet at Purva Zentech on Kanakapura Main Road will showcase over 5,200 items, while shoppers can purchase from IKEA’s complete selection of more than 7,000 products. It is a short walk from Konanakunte Cross Metro station, providing the shop with direct access to Bengaluru's public transport system.
IKEA’s expansion in Bengaluru focuses on a blend of showcasing, ordering, and fulfillment instead of just choosing between an online store and a traditional shop. The new store format of the company also indicates a reevaluation of its previous strategy. IKEA is closing its Whitefield plan-and-order point, which was launched as a smaller format.
The site at Konanakunte Cross situates the store within a distinct urban design.
Kanakapura Main Road serves as a significant growth corridor in southern Bengaluru, and the nearby metro station provides the outlet with access for customers using public transport.
IKEA's decision also coincides with its efforts to strengthen its foothold in current markets and penetrate new cities in India. The firm intends to establish 30 outlets throughout India by 2030 and plans to increase sales fourfold by then.

It is assessing Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Jaipur, and Chandigarh for the upcoming growth phase. These areas indicate a plan that extends beyond just the biggest metropolitan markets, although the firm is still reinforcing its presence in Bengaluru.
At its core, the expansion revolves around financial strain. IKEA India declared a revenue of Rs.1,749.5 crore for FY25 and experienced a net loss exceeding Rs.1,300 crore. Sharma stated that the company’s primary focus is on market penetration instead of profitability. It is persistently investing in retail locations, distribution hubs, and delivery systems while creating the capacity it deems essential for upcoming expansion.

For Bengaluru, the project demonstrates the evolving connection between retail and transportation infrastructure. Business locations are progressively required to cater to clients throughout a city where jobs, residences, and shopping are distributed across several corridors.
The Bengaluru outlet thus signifies a shift in IKEA India's growth narrative. The company is not forsaking large-scale physical retail, nor is it viewing e-commerce as a replacement for stores.
