India, Afghanistan to Bolster Cooperation, Civilisational Ties

India and Afghanistan engaged in talks to enhance collaboration in shared areas of interest during the meeting between Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami and Afghan envoy to China, Asadullah Karimi.
In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Beijing shared that they discussed the civilizational connections between the two nations and ongoing efforts to strengthen relations.
"Ambassador met H.E. Mawlawi Asadullah (Bilal Karimi), Ambassador of Afghanistan to China, in Beijing today. Ambassador @VDoraiswami and Ambassador Karimi exchanged views on the historical and civilisational ties between the peoples of the two countries and welcomed continued efforts to strengthen and deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest", the post reads.
In May, India reiterated its dedication and backing for the "friendly people" of Afghanistan in the health sector by sending 20 tonnes of essential dry material for vaccines to enhance the nation's child vaccination program.

India has consistently offered humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, including medical supplies and vaccines, as part of its continual support for the Afghan population. On April 5, the Ministry of External Affairs announced that India had provided humanitarian aid to assist Afghanistan affected by floods and earthquakes.
In a post on X, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India provided humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) supplies, such as kitchen sets, hygiene kits, plastic sheets, tarpaulins, sleeping bags, and additional items.

In May, India condemned Pakistan at the UN for the brutal attacks conducted by Islamabad on the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital in Kabul, resulting in the deaths of 269 civilians.

Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, India's Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasized that Pakistan has a lengthy history of engaging in genocidal actions against civilians, with 750 civilian deaths and injuries recorded in Afghanistan due to armed violence instigated by Pakistan.
Following the decline in relations with Pakistan, Afghanistan aims to broaden its economic connections. Owing to tensions, both nations have halted land trade since October 2025. The Afghan Minister called on India to enhance the operations at Chabahar Port (Iran) and to initiate regular shipping services through Chabahar to boost trade between the two nations through Chabahar.

The Trump Administration, which has placed multiple sanctions on Iran, has granted India a six-month waiver starting October 29, 2025, pertaining to the Chabahar Port.
The Chabahar Port initiative serves as India's access point to Afghanistan and Central Asia, holding significance for two main reasons. Initially, Pakistan has persistently obstructed land links between India and Afghanistan. Various commentators and analysts have seen Chabahar as India's response to the Gwadar Port, a key element of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
