India's Chip Gains Strengthen Global Supply Chains, Says PM Modi
Emphasizing India's efforts to build robust global supply chains through comprehensive structural reforms, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged international semiconductor leaders and equipment manufacturers to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the country's high-tech ecosystem.
He highlighted that the groundwork for advanced technologies such as compound semiconductors and silicon photonics has already been established.
Speaking at the SEMICON India 2026 conference in the capital, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that India has established the essential foundation needed to foster advanced semiconductor technologies and future-ready digital frameworks, particularly as supply chains are being weaponized.
"When a nation like ours excels in a vital industry, it reinforces the global supply chain - a reality that has gained greater importance as supply chains are being used as weapons. We ought to consider these changes occurring in India from this wider viewpoint,"t he Prime Minister stated.
The semiconductor sector is encountering various difficulties. In light of these challenges, the globe urgently requires new and dependable manufacturing centers, and I express this with complete accountability. I can guarantee that India is consistently readying itself for this position. Additionally, India is focusing on bolstering supply chains and has enacted numerous reforms to realize this," he stated.

Highlighting the Centre's proactive measures in establishing robust global supply chains, PM Modi pointed out that significant policy reforms have been implemented to position India as an appealing center for comprehensive chip design, production, and assembly.

"Manufacturing different compound semiconductors and incorporating silicon photonics into the ecosystem are both crucial for AI-enabling infrastructure, and we must progress collectively in this area." "The essential groundwork for this has already been established," he stated.
