Aloke, who previously held the position of managing director and chief executive at Air India Express, has been appointed to lead comprehensive strategic planning and supervise various projects focused on enhancing operational efficiency, increasing competitiveness, and expanding the airline's international presence.

In his new role, he will collaborate closely with IndiGo's executive team to address cross-functional priorities, such as enhancing customer satisfaction and enhancing the organization's adaptability.

At present, IndiGo, which has historically held a significant presence in India's domestic aviation market, is enhancing its focus on international routes amidst growing competition and continued cost challenges within the industry.

“Aloke brings an exceptional blend of strategic vision and operational depth,” Rahul Bhatia, managing director of IndiGo, says, adding that his experience would be critical as the airline seeks to build a “more agile, resilient and future-ready organisation.”

Aloke offers over 30 years of expertise in strategy, operations, and commercial operations within the aviation industry. He spearheaded a significant operational and cultural evolution during his time at Air India Express, which included overseeing network growth and enhanced performance.

In previous positions at Air India and Oman Air, Aloke held senior executive positions with a specific emphasis on strategic planning. Aloke will initially be under the supervision of Bhatia and will subsequently be under the supervision of IndiGo's forthcoming chief executive upon the announcement of their appointment.

Aloke expressed in a formal declaration his decision to join IndiGo during a critical juncture for the airline and the overall Indian aviation sector, highlighting their strategic aim to grow beyond their established presence in the domestic market and enhance their global footprint. IndiGo has been facing a number of operational and regulatory challenges in recent months, leading to a decline in its reputation for dependability.

The situation reached its height in December 2025, when the airline had to cancel numerous flights and experience delays due to a failure in coordinating crew scheduling with updated pilot fatigue regulations. This resulted in passengers being stranded across the country and drew attention from regulators, resulting in penalties and negative public perception.
