Micron to Invest $3 Billion in US Semiconductor Expansion

Micron Technology, Inc. revealed intentions to invest as much as $3 billion to enhance the U.S. semiconductor supply chain and support the essential semiconductor manufacturing base required for upcoming technological advancements.
The investment demonstrates Micron's dedication to ensuring a dependable supply of essential manufacturing materials in the U.S., strengthening supply reliability, increasing long-term planning adaptability, and addressing the rising demand for advanced memory and storage solutions fueled by artificial intelligence and other data-heavy applications.
In line with its planned investment in the U.S. supply chain, Micron will offer GlobalWafers Co., Ltd. $500 million in strategic financial support to enhance the development and manufacturing capabilities of its GlobalWafers America 300mm raw silicon wafer production facility located in Sherman, Texas.
The firms will also establish a 10-year supply contract that will give Micron access to substantial raw silicon wafer capacity to aid its long-term production strategies and strengthen the vital semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in the U.S.

Micron’s strategic investment in the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem and GlobalWafers' raw silicon wafer manufacturing facility reflects our commitment to strengthening supply assurance, deepening collaboration with key suppliers, and supporting the expansion of the semiconductor supply chain and manufacturing infrastructure in the United States. Together, these efforts help build a more resilient supply chain that can support future innovation and growing demand for advanced memory solutions."
