Nidhi Chhibber Takes Interim Charge as CEO of NITI Aayog

The Center designated Nidhi Chhibber, a 1994-batch IAS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the government policy institute NITI Aayog, after B.V.R. Subrahmanyam concluded his term on February 24th.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has designated her the interim responsibility of CEO of NITI Aayog until the selection of a permanent official or until further instructions are given, whichever comes first, as per the directive issued by the department of personnel and training.

Chhibber, a 1994-graduate of the Indian Administrative Service from the Chhattisgarh cadre, presently holds the position of Director General at the Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office, which serves as the assessment division of NITI Aayog.
This office provides assistance to various ministries by conducting independent evaluations, monitoring progress based on outcomes, and implementing initiatives to enhance the efficiency of program delivery.
The temporary arrangement guarantees a seamless shift during the period when comprehensive reform and oversight efforts are in progress at the highest-level policymaking body of the government.
NITI Aayog, founded in 2015 to succeed the Planning Commission, is tasked with formulating development plans, facilitating collaboration between the federal and state governments, and monitoring key programs.

Chhibber has occupied numerous high-level administrative and policy roles at both the central and state government levels.
In 2022, she held the position of Chairperson at the Central Board of Secondary Education after previously serving as an Additional Secretary at NITI Aayog. In April 2025, she briefly assumed the role of Officer on Special Duty at the Ministry of Food Processing Industries before resuming her duties at the think tank.
She possesses a Master's degree in History and an LL.B., and is fluent in both English and Hindi. Throughout a career spanning over 30 years, BVR Subrahmanyam, a 1987-batch IAS officer, has been entrusted with significant responsibilities in various regions such as Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jammu and Kashmir, as well as a notable tenure at the World Bank.

Among his notable roles are serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, holding the position of Chief Secretary in Jammu & Kashmir, serving as Principal Secretary in the Chhattisgarh government, and occupying various roles in the Prime Minister’s Office.
NITI Aayog, established in 2015 as a replacement for the Planning Commission, operates as the primary public policy body of the Indian government. Its responsibilities include promoting collaboration among different levels of government, formulating sustainable development plans, overseeing key initiatives, and facilitating coordination between the central and state governments.
