Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang is currently in Shanghai, according to reports, as the U.S. chip giant encounters tough competition from local competitors and examination from Chinese officials. Huang's visit, to initiate yearly festivities with Nvidia's staff in China, is customary. He is anticipated to go to an Nvidia event in Shanghai on Saturday before heading to Beijing, Shenzhen, and then Taiwan, according to reports.

Nvidia, located in Santa Clara, California, did not reply to a request for comment. Chinese news source Tencent News initially reported Huang's arrival in Shanghai on Friday.

Huang traveled to China no fewer than three times last year and met with the commerce minister in July.

Nvidia is awaiting Beijing's decision on allowing the firm to sell its powerful H200 artificial intelligence chip to Chinese clients, a move that has already received approval from Washington.

Authorities in China informed customs officials that the H200 chip was not allowed to enter the country, sources familiar with the situation revealed to Reuters this month. It wasn't evident if this represented an official prohibition or a short-term action.
