
PM Inaugurates 16th Combined Commanders Conference in Kolkata

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is conducting a visit to West Bengal and Bihar to launch important infrastructure and development initiatives designed to strengthen India's defense readiness, improve regional connections, and boost economic development.
Beginning his schedule in Kolkata, PM Modi will launch the 16th Combined Commanders' Conference-2025 at approximately 9:30 a.m. This three-day event, scheduled from September 15 to 17, represents the highest-level gathering of India's military forces and senior civilian officials.
The conference's theme this year, 'Year of Reforms – Transforming for the Future', highlights the administration's commitment to comprehensive transformation and advancement of India's defense systems.
Subsequently, PM Modi will travel to Purnia, Bihar, where he will open the new Interim Terminal Building of the New Civil Enclave at Purnea Airport. This facility is expected to substantially improve air travel connections and passenger processing capabilities in northeastern Bihar.

The Prime Minister is set to provide a significant boost to regional growth by laying foundation stones and launching projects totaling around Rs 36,000 crore. A key highlight includes the groundbreaking ceremony for Bihar's most substantial private sector investment - a 3x800 MW Thermal Power Project in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur, valued at Rs 25,000 crore. This power facility will utilize ultra-super critical technology with reduced emissions and is anticipated to substantially strengthen Bihar's energy security.
Additionally, PM Modi will initiate the first phase of the Kosi-Mechi Intra-State River Link Project, costing more than Rs 2,680 crore.
This initiative will enhance irrigation systems, flood management, and agricultural development in northeastern Bihar through improved canal discharge capacity and restoration of essential infrastructure.
The Prime Minister will also establish the National Makhana Board in Bihar, acknowledging the state's leading position in makhana cultivation, which accounts for approximately 90 percent of India's total production. This board will concentrate on improving production methods, post-harvest processes, technological implementation, value enhancement, marketing strategies, and export development, with the goal of establishing Bihar's makhana as a globally recognized product.

He will additionally allocate Community Investment Funds totaling Rs 500 crore to Cluster Level Federations through the DAY-NRLM program, strengthening rural communities. During the ceremony, ceremonial checks will be presented to selected CLF leaders.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister will establish groundwork for several railway projects and inaugurate new train services to enhance rail connections throughout Bihar.
