Power Ministry Forms Energy Stack Task Force for DPI Review

The Power Ministry scheduled a meeting of the India Energy Stack (IES) task force to speed up the progress of developing Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for the power industry. The IES initiative aims to be the central digital infrastructure for the energy sector, ensuring security and compatibility across the entire value chain.
REC is leading this effort as the Nodal Agency, while FSR Global is providing expertise as the Knowledge Partner.
The main purpose of the meeting was to collaboratively examine and discuss the two fundamental components of the project - the preliminary IES Strategy Document and the IES Architecture Document.

The Taskforce, which includes specialists in technology, the power sector, and regulatory agencies, participated in a thorough roundtable discussion after reviewing the documents. The goal of the conversation was to gather strategic advice from all participants at a high level.
REC CMD Jitendra Srivastava says, “Today’s meeting is a pivotal milestone in our shared national ambition to create a unified, open, and future-ready digital backbone for India’s entire energy sector. The IES Strategy and Architecture documents are vital frameworks that will be enriched by the collective wisdom and guidance of our esteemed Taskforce members. The inputs received will help consolidate the framework and shape the pathway toward refinement and the pilot phase”.
The India Energy Stack, which stands for a Digital Public Infrastructure, is designed to find and link stakeholders and resources, and promote the sharing of data through consistent specifications and guidelines, in order to enable accessible, trustworthy, diverse, effective, and cost-effective energy availability.

By implementing standard digital protocols, open APIs, and federated registries, IES aims to connect existing separate systems, facilitate immediate data sharing, and promote creativity. This will ultimately enhance operational effectiveness for DISCOMs, speed up the adoption of renewable energy, promote sustainable energy markets, and provide customer-focused power services.
The members expressed that the IES will achieve for the power sector what Aadhaar did for identity verification and UPI accomplished for digital payments.
The advice and contributions given by the Taskforce members during this meeting will play a crucial role in strengthening the basic structure and determining the next steps, such as improving the documents and starting the pilot phase of the initiative.
