Sabyasachi Couture Names Former Shein India Executive Manish Chopra as CEO

Aditya Birla Group-owned luxury fashion label Sabyasachi Couture has appointed Manish Chopra as its chief executive officer, who joins from Reliance Retail-backed Shein India, where he was a senior leader.
The move comes at a time when the home-grown apparel retail market is seeing a revival after a subdued 2024, and Indian luxury labels such as Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra and Gaurav Gupta are taking their luxury labels global.
Chopra had joined Reliance Retail Ventures to lead Shein India's operations in the middle of last year from social media platform Meta.
However, the Chinese fashion retailer's consumer app remains in the initial stages in India, even two years after Reliance Retail inked a strategic partnership with Shein.
The two companies are also in discussions for their global sourcing partnership after Beijing discouraged local Chinese companies from shifting production overseas amid a tariff war with the US.

Sabyasachi had sold 51 percent stake to the Aditya Birla Group in 2021 for Rs.398 crore.
The latter has acquired stakes in multiple fashion design houses as well, such as Tarun Tahiliani, Masaba and Shantanu-Nikhil.
Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee is all set to debut an exclusive collection of high jewellery in London this month. Steeped in India’s rich culture, the Indian designer will showcase the stunning collection at Harrods, the iconic British luxury emporium, located on Brompton Road in London’s Knightsbridge.
The highly anticipated presentation will run from July 21 to 27 in the private Penthouse Suite atop the storied British luxury emporium, offering a rare, immersive experience into Indian heritage through the lens of haute jewellery.
