Trump 'Okay' With 500 Percent Tariff on Russia's Trading Partners

President Donald Trump of the United States stated that he supports the legislation suggesting sanctions on nations that engage in trade with Russia.
Trump mentioned that Republicans are developing a law to sanction any nation engaging in trade with Moscow, indicating that Iran could be included on the list.
When questioned about the appropriateness of Congress enacting measures to exert pressure on Russia and President Vladimir Putin, Trump responded, “I understand they're pursuing that, and I’m fine with it.”
"They're implementing laws that the Republicans are enacting, imposing strict penalties on any nation engaging in trade with Russia. They might include Iran in that I proposed it,” the US President informed reporters.

“Thus, any nation engaging in trade with Russia will face significant sanctions.” Trump reiterated, “We might include Iran in the equation.”

The US is preparing legislation that would enforce a 500 percent tax on imports from nations purchasing Russian energy. The report indicated that this primarily focuses on significant consumers of Russian energy, including China and India.
A proposal by Senator Lindsey Graham has suggested a 500 percent tariff on the secondary purchase and resale of Russian oil. The proposal enjoys nearly unanimous support in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Graham and Senator Richard Blumenthal have together put forward the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025, aiming to establish secondary tariffs and sanctions on “nations that persist in supporting Putin’s brutal war in Ukraine." The suggested bill has 85 supporters in the Senate.
The US has imposed sanctions on India due to New Delhi's trade of Russian oil. In August 2025, the Trump administration implemented a further 25 percent tariff on imports from India, increasing the total to 50 percent concerning Russian oil imports. Although Washington alleged that India was financing the Russian oil operations, New Delhi dismissed the accusations.
