TT Jagannathan, the Chairman Emeritus of TTK Group and the mastermind behind the renowned Prestige brand, passed away in Bengaluru on Thursday, October 9. He stood among India's leading business figures who revolutionized the nation's kitchenware sector through innovative thinking and determination.

Jagannathan transformed the pressure cooker industry by introducing the gasket release mechanism, a groundbreaking safety feature that rebuilt consumer confidence and established Prestige as a recognized name in Indian households.

Equipped with a PhD in Operations Research from Cornell University and an award from IIT Madras, Jagannathan merged scholarly excellence with business vision.

Throughout his fifty-year leadership at TTK Prestige, he navigated the organization through numerous obstacles, including financial collapse, ultimately converting it into a profitable, debt-free billion-dollar corporation.

Jagannathan authored the celebrated book "Disrupt and Conquer: How TTK Prestige Became a Billion Dollar Company," which documented the organization's transformation from hardship to international achievement.

Within the publication, Jagannathan detailed how TTK Prestige encountered serious financial difficulties during the 1990s, approaching bankruptcy due to excessive expansion and departmental losses.

He explained how the organization implemented comprehensive restructuring, concentrating on its primary kitchen appliance operations, reducing expenses, and developing innovative products such as the safety pressure cooker.

These strategies enabled TTK Prestige to eliminate debt and develop into a billion-dollar company in terms of both worth and market value.

 

Professional peers and business executives recalled him as both an industry leader and an enthusiastic chef who genuinely comprehended the requirements of contemporary Indian kitchens, knowledge that frequently influenced his creative developments.
