    The Indian migration to Italy on a large scale began by early 1990s, when Italian government initiated programs to get Indian IT professionals and engineers to contribute to the technology sector in Italy. Italy has so many Indian entrepreneurs, those who are incredibly active in restaurant, retail field and tourism sector of Italy. About half of the total Indian migrant population in Italy live in the central and northern regions of the country, especially in the cities of Rome and Milan. The Indian diaspora contributes on a large scale to the Italian economy.

    Italy has emerged as the country with highest Indian diaspora in Europe, with the total number of Indian in Italy crossing 200,000. Over past 20 years, the country has attracted many Indians due to better living and working conditions to higher education opportunities. This makes about 0.2 percent of Italy’s population. However, this constitutes only 2.9 percent of total foreign population of the country. The high achieving Indian minority has already integrated successfully into the Italian life and has been able to contribute impressively to the Italian economy. Indian diaspora is generally considered to be industrious, business minded, entrepreneurial and law abiding. Various policies by the Italian government such as huge tax benefits are attracting foreigners to Italy from all over the world. With the UK intensifying their restrictions, Indians, especially the technically talented youth of India, are looking for an alternative, yet attractive destination in Europe.
