In the traditional process of business exchange, India and Kuwait have warm and friendly relations. It has sustained over the years from business set up by Indians in the foreign land. Marking the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between India and Kuwait in the year 2020-21, India has been a natural trading partner of Kuwait. Before the discovery and development of the oil industry, Kuwait had its economy revolving around the fine harbor and maritime activities. The trades included construction of ships, fishing and voyage to India with Arabian horses, pearls and dates for wood, cereals, clothes and spices trading. In recent times, India and Kuwait have agreed on an MoU which allows the Indian domestic workers in the Gulf country within the legal jurisdiction for streamlining recruitment and providing Indian workers protection within the law. This has been a welcoming step for both the ministers (External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar from India and Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Ahmed Nasser al-Mohammed al-Sabah) as it introduced an employment contract within the rights and obligations of employer and the domestic workers.

This has been a welcoming step for both the ministers (External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar from India and Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Ahmed Nasser al-Mohammed al-Sabah) as it introduced an employment contract within the rights and obligations of employer and the domestic workers. The MoU works in a mechanism for 24-hour assistance to domestic workers and provides the way for the establishment of a joint committee for the uniform review and assessment and proper conduct of the MoU annual meetings. With the MoU signed, around one million Indians residing in Kuwait become secured. Business development has been augmented by the Indian leaders in Kuwait where India is among the largest trading partners of Kuwait and the Gulf nation.
