Aditya Swamy Elevated to Managing Director of Google Play

Aditya Swamy, an experienced media and marketing professional with over 20 years in the industry spanning consumer brands and digital platforms, has been promoted to the position of Managing Director at Google Play.
Aditya manages Google Play's operations throughout 14 nations, encompassing India, Southeast Asia, and Australia. He collaborates extensively with developers, emerging companies, and investors to enhance the app marketplace and broaden the digital infrastructure in the region.
Additionally, Aditya spearheads Google's involvement with emerging startups in India through the Google for Startups program, assisting entrepreneurs and investment firms in fast-tracking the development of digitally-focused enterprises.

Prior to his tenure at Google, Aditya occupied executive positions at several of India's leading corporations. Holding an MBA from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, he launched his professional journey in sales and marketing with Coca-Cola before transitioning to Viacom18, where he took on the role of Chief Executive Officer for MTV.
He subsequently worked at Flipkart as Senior Director of Marketing, contributing to the development of significant shopping events like the Big Billion Day promotion.
Currently leading Google Play in one of the globe's most rapidly expanding digital environments, Aditya operates at the convergence of technology, media, and business innovation—contributing to how India and surrounding areas navigate the upcoming stage of digital transformation.
Additionally, Google has suggested modifications to its Play Store and advertising guidelines for India's real-money gaming industry, which could permit additional gaming applications on the platform.

This development follows the technology company's appeal to the Supreme Court regarding an NCLT decision that partially supported the Competition Commission of India's determination that Google exploited its dominant position within the Android ecosystem.
The technology corporation also mentioned it was developing a strategy for a suitable business framework that would consider the revenue models employed by developers within the real-money gaming space. Applications must provide documentation proving their legal compliance and demonstrate good standing with a recognized and credible third-party organization approved under Google's guidelines.
Gaming applications seeking distribution through the Play Store must obtain certification from specified industry organizations, which will assess whether a game meets the criteria for a "permissible skill-based game".

Such industry organizations might encompass online skill gaming groups like the All India Gaming Federation, the Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports, or the E-Gaming Federation. The policy will also permit real-money games classified as skill-based to be promoted in India, provided they receive third-party certification.
