Andhra Partners IIT Tirupati, UNSW to Launch Solar Center
As a significant move to enhance the renewable energy landscape in Andhra Pradesh, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has collaborated with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Tirupati and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, to set up a Centre of Excellence for Solar Manufacturing at IIT Tirupati.
The agreement was officially signed in front of Australian Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs Julian Hill MP, signifying another key development in the expanding strategic partnership between Andhra Pradesh and Australia.
The Centre of Excellence will spearhead advanced research, innovation, technology advancement, and workforce training, establishing a globally competitive talent pool to further Andhra Pradesh's clean energy goals.
The initiative corresponds with the state's vision of developing not just renewable energy capacity but also a comprehensive ecosystem of top-tier research, advanced manufacturing, and skilled experts to drive India's clean energy transition.
The collaboration unites the Government of Andhra Pradesh's Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition (CoEET), IIT Tirupati, and UNSW Sydney, which ranks among the world’s top 20 universities and excels in solar photovoltaic research and clean energy advancements.

The Centre of Excellence will concentrate on enhancing solar photovoltaic production, recycling and circular economy, workforce training, cutting-edge research, technology commercialization, and collaboration within the industry.

It will enable training programmes focused on industry, executive education, faculty advancement, professional certifications, joint research, laboratory enhancement, and international knowledge sharing, establishing a robust pipeline of engineers, researchers, and industry experts for the renewable energy field.
The collaboration results from talks started by Minister for Education, IT and Electronics Nara Lokesh during his trip to Australia in October 2025, during which enhancing cooperation with top Australian universities in renewable energy research, advanced manufacturing, and workforce development was recognized as a primary focus.
In recent months, representatives from the Andhra Pradesh Government, IIT Tirupati, and UNSW collaborated to transform those talks into a tangible partnership.

On this occasion, Nara Lokesh stated: “Andhra Pradesh is implementing one of the most ambitious renewable energy initiatives in India. Our vision extends past developing renewable energy capacity—we are constructing a comprehensive ecosystem that merges cutting-edge manufacturing, top-tier research, innovation, and highly skilled professionals. Our collaboration with IIT Tirupati and UNSW, a top global university, will position Andhra Pradesh as a hub for clean energy innovation while training the upcoming generation of engineers, researchers, and entrepreneurs who will drive India's energy transition.
