Ashwini Vaishnaw Praises Shipping of iPhones Worth $50 Billion

In 2025, Apple Inc. achieved a noteworthy achievement by exporting iPhones worth $50 billion from India, which served as a significant advancement for the country's manufacturing industry. The progress was announced by Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, highlighting the influence of the 'Make in India' campaign and the shift towards a production-driven economy.
The Minister highlighted the significance of electronics in driving the manufacturing economy, with 46 component manufacturing projects and manufacturers of laptops, servers, and hearables playing a key role.

Additionally, he mentioned that four semiconductor plants are set to commence commercial production within the current year. The electronics industry currently sustains 2.5 million jobs, with numerous facilities hosting over 5,000 workers each.
"In a major milestone for PM @narendramodi Ji's 'Make in India' and our quest to become a producer economy, Apple ships $50 billion worth of mobile phones in 2025," Vaishnaw says. To give context, during its five-year PLI period from FY21 to FY25, Samsung shipped devices worth approximately $17 billion.

Highlighting the broader growth in the sector, Vaishnaw stated, "Electronics production has increased 6 times in the last 11 years. And electronics exports have grown 8 times under PM Modi's focused leadership. This progress has propelled electronics products among the top 3 exported items."
The Minister noted that certain factories currently have up to 40,000 employees at a single site.
The Minister underscored that the ongoing advancements signify the early phase of the nation's industrial plan. He expressed the goal of the country to emerge as a significant contender in the complete range of electronic technologies.
"This is just the beginning. Bharat will become a major player in the entire electronics stack - design, manufacturing, operating system, applications, materials, and equipment," Vaishnaw says.

Earlier, the minister expressed his belief that 'Bharat' will emerge as a significant contributor across the entire spectrum of electronics, including design, manufacturing, operating systems, applications, materials, and equipment.
Subsequently, in a social media post, the minister heralded a significant achievement for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' initiative and the nation's aspiration to transition to a producer-oriented economy, citing Apple's projected shipment of mobile phones valued at $50 billion by 2025. He also mentioned that the inclusion of 46 component manufacturing projects, along with manufacturers of laptops, servers, and hearables, is contributing to the growth of the ecosystem and establishing electronics manufacturing as a principal catalyst for economic development.
