Bloomingdale PR appoints Parikshit Sharma as Southeast Asia Director

imgBloomingdale Public Relations (BPR) has appointed Parikshit Sharma as its Regional Director – Southeast Asia to add a fresh focus to the company's communications business in the region. Parikshit will oversee Singapore operations as well as the agency's mandate in Southeast Asia, including the burgeoning business lane between India and Singapore.

Parikshit has over 20 years of marketing, brand activation, shopper marketing, experiential strategy, consumer engagement and communications expertise. Parikshit 's experience spans from brand strategy, consumer behaviour, retail marketing, and digital engagement at senior roles with DDB Mudra, Ogilvy Action, Wunderman Thompson, and Havas Media Group.

Parikshit has contributed to brands across the ASEAN and Australia with guidance on retail, activation and digital engagement over this time. He has spearheaded new business launches for global brands including Intel and Nokia, which bolsters his regional leadership credentials with international experience.

Diana Fernandes, Founder and Group CEO of Bloomingdale Public Relations, commented that “Singapore offers a valuable perspective in understanding and building relationships across the Southeast Asia region. She said that the agency was seeking someone to be a leader by having the eyes to see beyond the Singapore market and to help them create a more integrated regional communications practice”.

The agency also actively sought to recruit its regional leader outside of the traditional PR skill sets, Fernandes added. “Communications has undergone an enormous transformation and is now at the crossroads of business, culture, technology, consumer behaviour and reputation,” Parikshit said, adding that Parikshit's diverse background across brands and markets adds a different angle to communications.

Parikshit 's breadth of communications industry perspective. He has always been interested in the consumer's attention, trust and choice of brands. He believes in the new public relations principles being rooted in an insight into the business and the market, not just media visibility.

PR is no longer simply about getting media coverage.” It's all about knowing the business, knowing the consumer, knowing the culture of the brand and understanding the reputation of the brand and consolidating all that”, said Parikshit.

He has also gained experience in the ASEAN region, India, Africa, and Australia, which has influenced his regional differences perspective. This is because the Southeast Asian region is not a single market and each nation has its own media landscape, audience tastes, business cultures and regulations, Parikshit noted.

He will focus on building up a regional practice that understands and embraces those differences while assisting brands to do so at a greater level of understanding in the context of communications and business. He also highlighted the need to be an accountable communications partner, one who adds to the growth of clients and their reputations too.

Parikshit has successfully spearheaded a festival shopper initiative for Wunderman Thompson for 10 Tata retail brands such as Tanishq, Titan, Croma, Westside etc. He spearheaded the Hindustan Unilever rural activation campaign which touched over 4 million homes at Ogilvy Action. He was awarded Gold and Silver in the shopper marketing category at the Abby Awards for his work at DDB Mudra.

Parikshit brings experience in marketing leadership, brand strategy, consumer engagement, experiential marketing, digital communications and reputation management to the table, enabling him to help shape communications across Southeast Asia and enhance business relationships between the region and India.
