imgBosch Home Comfort Group aims to introduce Bosch-branded air conditioners in India next year and is aiming for a significant double-digit market share within two years, stated Managing Director Sanjay Sudhakaran, as the company plans to invest approximately Rs 900 crore to enhance manufacturing, localisation, and engineering capabilities.

The firm that obtained the worldwide residential and light-commercial air-conditioning division of Johnson Controls and Hitachi in August 2025 is implementing a dual-brand approach in India. Hitachi will focus on the mainstream and mass-premium markets, whereas Bosch will target the performance-premium and super-premium segments.

Sudhakaran mentioned that the firm also intends to rank among India’s top five brands for cooling and comfort in the medium term. Air conditioners under the Bosch brand are anticipated to rival competitors like O General and Mitsubishi Electric, with offerings priced roughly between Rs 45,000 and Rs 50,000 and higher.

The funding will aid the company’s residential air-conditioning sector and its growth into light-commercial offerings, featuring variable refrigerant flow systems branded by Hitachi. Hitachi’s newest VRF products are produced at the company’s plant in Kadi, Gujarat, and its global research and development center in Ahmedabad has been enlarged to emphasize light-commercial air-conditioning technologies.

The Kadi facility now possesses an annual production capacity exceeding 10 lakh air-conditioning units. The company is contemplating the establishment of an additional manufacturing facility in southern India, though Sudhakaran neither confirmed nor denied that this option was being evaluated.

Local production and backward integration will continue to be key to the growth. Currently, around 75 percent of the company’s procurement comes from domestic sources, with imports making up about 25 percent. The Kadi facility produces heat exchangers, molds for indoor units, condensing units, sheet-metal parts, tubing and coils, and also performs painting tasks.

Sudhakaran stated that the company brings in products and parts that cannot be found in India and has focused on local manufacturing instead of increased reliance on imports. Bosch Home Comfort additionally has access to compressor resources through a joint venture with a leading international compressor producer running a facility in Ahmedabad.

The organization intends to utilize Hitachi’s current distribution and retail network for both brands while examining Bosch’s consumer-appliance retail presence.

Bosch-branded air conditioning units might also be available in stores that carry Bosch and BSH brands. Large-format stores, local retailers, and online platforms will continue to be included in the distribution approach.

The organization anticipates sharing backend functions across sales and service networks, manufacturing, research and development, product development, supply chains, and human resources. Bosch and Hitachi will offer distinct product portfolios, characteristics, channels, and market positioning aimed at customers. Sudhakaran mentioned that India's low penetration of room air conditioners, increasing disposable incomes, and economic growth offered considerable opportunities for growth.
