EON Space Labs Secures Indigenous Space Telescope MIRA Patent

EON Space Labs, a deeptech firm specializing in sophisticated electro-optical imaging technologies, has received a patent for its compact imaging system based on a space telescope named MIRA.
MIRA is a sophisticated imaging system, combined with TakeMe2Space’s MOI-1A satellite — India’s inaugural orbital computing satellite scheduled for launch aboard the SpaceX Transporter-18 rocket on October 1, 2026.

MIRA made its initial attempt at an orbital flight earlier this year in January during ISRO’s PSLV-C62 mission. Although an upper-stage anomaly hindered payload deployment, the mission effectively confirmed MIRA's mechanical integration, spaceflight packaging, and hardware preparedness.
In addition to this, EON Space Labs is advancing its flight heritage plan with another imminent orbital launch using ISRO’s Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV).
The Indian Patent Office, GoI, has granted a patent for an invention called “A Miniaturized Telescope-Based Imaging System.” Codenamed MIRA, it also meets NASA's space-grade certification, providing high-definition multispectral Earth Observation imagery in an ultra-compact design. Weighing just 502 grams, MIRA allows satellite operators to provide commercial EO services in agriculture, marine, mining, supply chain management, and insurance.
The patent is a critical milestone on our journey to reduce import dependence on optical imaging technologies.

“We’re razor focused on translating advanced optical engineering into compact, high-performance systems to address evolving commercial and defence Earth observation requirements across space, aerial and ground domains,’’ Sanjay Kumar, Co-founder, EON Space Labs says.
The patented technology is integral to EON Space Labs’ larger goal of creating compact, high-quality optical imaging systems for defense surveillance. Hyderabad-based EON Space Labs is utilizing its patented technology to develop ultra-long-range electro-optical systems for the Indian Army and Indian Navy under the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) framework of the Ministry of Defence. It is creating a portable Multisight system for extended-range defense monitoring.
Earlier, Eon Space Labs reached a significant milestone by successfully conducting NASA-standard thermo-vacuum testing for MIRA, India’s inaugural indigenous miniaturized space telescope. MIRA, with a weight of only 502 grams, is scheduled to be launched in December 2025 on a future ISRO satellite mission. Although MIRA is three to four times lighter than traditional space telescopes, it provides high-resolution images throughout the UV, visible, and near-infrared ranges.

The startup has recently secured $1.2 million in Pre-Series A funding from MGF Kavachh and HHV Advanced Technologies to expedite the development and expand its innovative optics technology. MIRA’s streamlined and lightweight design greatly lowers launch expenses while ensuring outstanding imaging quality, making it perfect for CubeSats and small satellite systems.
