Geon Unveils Battery Energy Storage System at Khavda, Gujarat

GEON, the advanced technologies sector of Kabra Extrusiontechnik Ltd, has successfully integrated and launched a 2.88 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at Khavda in just five months.
The initiative, one of the biggest utility-scale BESS installations in India, is currently fully functional.
Anand Kabra, Chairman and Managing Director at Geon – Green Energy ON says, “Battery storage is no longer a supporting technology — it is fast becoming central to how we manage and deliver clean power at grid scale. We are proud to have delivered this project on time and look forward to building on this momentum.”

Saurabh Jain, CEO – Energy Storage, Geon, adds, “GEON successfully delivered the 2.88 GWh BESS Khavda project as nodal agency, completing the entire scope within an impressive timeline of just five months”.
“The achievement reflects strong planning, efficient execution, and seamless coordination between the engineering and on-site project teams. This milestone highlights GEON’s capability in executing large-scale energy storage projects with speed, precision, and high standards of quality.”
The installation contributes to the expanding renewable energy framework at Khavda, which is becoming a significant clean energy center in India. Geon’s focus included system integration, implementation, testing, and commissioning — encompassing the integration of power conditioning systems (PCS), transformers, and sophisticated energy management systems (EMS).
Geon's strategy for the long term involves producing BESS in India, with projects in progress for a gigafactory to cater to future needs and enhance the country's energy storage landscape.
Established in 2018, GEON (Green Energy ON) operates in e-mobility, energy storage, and electronics, providing lithium-ion battery packs for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and off-road vehicles. Its range of products also features storage options such as BESS, inverter batteries, telecom backup systems, and solutions for commercial and industrial use.
