India, Belgium Deepen Ties in Trade, Defense, Critical Minerals
Today, India and Belgium signed multiple agreements, including a Letter of Intent on Defense Cooperation and MoUs regarding Renewable Energy, cybercrime, and diplomatic training.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a discussion with his Belgian counterpart Bart De Wever in New Delhi this afternoon. The two leaders talked about the complete range of bilateral relations and also regional and global matters of shared interest.

According to reports, Prime Minister Modi mentioned that the globe is experiencing a period of significant turmoil and conflicts continue to exist in various regions worldwide. He mentioned that uncertainty impacts all sectors, including food, fuel, and supply chains.
He stressed that India’s economy has sustained its momentum despite this difficult environment. He stated that in the previous quarter, India achieved a growth rate of 7.8 percent. He added that India’s growth narrative is increasingly providing confidence and fresh opportunities globally.
Modi stated that the foundations of India-Belgium relations are profoundly rooted in history. He emphasized that the bravery and sacrifice of countless Indian soldiers in Belgium during World War I constitute a significant aspect of the collective memory of both countries. He emphasized that shared democratic principles, a market economy, and people-to-people connections make India and Belgium ideal partners.
Modi mentioned that he traveled to Belgium a decade ago and felt glad that the collaboration has advanced significantly in the last ten years. He mentioned that the range of bilateral collaboration has broadened beyond conventional sectors to encompass strategic fields like defense and clean energy.

Prime Minister Modi stated that a dependable supply chain and a clean energy future are common priorities for the two countries. He further mentioned that the MoU established today regarding Renewable Energy will provide fresh impetus to sustainability collaboration. In essential minerals, both countries have chosen to enhance collaboration in processing and recycling.
Modi stated that Belgium’s proficiency in semiconductors and India’s vastness mutually enhance each other.
In this regard, the two nations will collaborate to link Belgium’s IMEC Institute with India’s semiconductor industry. This morning, the Prime Minister of Belgium visited Rajghat to honor Mahatma Gandhi. The Prime Minister of Belgium is visiting India for three days. Belgian Defence Minister Theo Francken is joining Prime Minister De Wever. This marks his initial trip to India since assuming office in February of the previous year.
